When it's still hard after weeks
Even after the first weeks, you may still struggle with restlessness, poor sleep or low mood. There's a name for that.
After the first withdrawal, symptoms can come back in waves: poor sleep, trouble concentrating, irritability, low mood or sudden cravings. This is called post-acute withdrawal. Your brain is still healing.
It can last for months, but it gradually eases. The good days get longer and the bad days shorter. It helps to know this is part of the process, so you don't think you're doing it wrong.
What helps: routine, enough sleep, eating well, moving and contact with others. Keep track of how you feel, so you can see the line going up over the long run.
Are the symptoms still very heavy? Talk to your doctor or counselor. Sometimes extra help is needed, and that's completely okay.
