Filling your free time again
What did you enjoy before the substance took over? And what do you still want to discover?
Addiction slowly takes up more and more space. Hobbies, sports and friends fade into the background. When you stop, there's room to bring that back, or to discover something new.
Think back to who you were before the addiction. What did you love doing as a kid, as a teenager? Music, drawing, soccer, fixing things, reading? Sometimes the old joy comes right back.
Try something new too, ideally with other people. A class, a choir, a sports club, volunteering. That way you build a new network at the same time.
Don't expect it to be fun right away. Your brain still has to recover. Give yourself a few tries before deciding whether something suits you.
