Lotte, 28
From an online guild to real friends
Then
Lotte played an online game where she led a group. She felt needed and important. During the day she half worked, at night she played. Her real friendships faded and she sat out her days until she could log in again.
The turning point
She fell asleep at the wheel on her way to work and hit a post. She was unhurt, but badly shaken. She gave up her role in the game and told her group honestly why.
Now
Lotte quit a year and a half ago. She now organizes board game nights at a community center. She still feels needed, but in real life. She says: the people in the game were kind. But they couldn't give me a hug.
