Moving against cravings
Movement is one of the best tools against cravings, stress and low mood. And you don't have to play sports.
When you move, your body releases chemicals that improve your mood and reduce tension. Just ten minutes of brisk walking can noticeably reduce a craving. It also helps with poor sleep and worrying.
You don't have to become a fanatical athlete. Walking, cycling, swimming, dancing in the living room or taking the stairs all count. What matters most is doing it regularly and enjoying it.
Movement is also a good replacement for the moments when you used to use. Go for a walk at the time cravings usually come. You break the habit and give your body something else to do.
Start small. Fifteen minutes a day is enough to notice a difference. Then build up slowly.
