Eating well helps you recover
What you eat affects your mood, your energy and your cravings.
Many people who used ate irregularly. Alcohol has a lot of calories and takes the place of real meals. Other substances suppress your appetite. Your body is therefore often short on vitamins and minerals.
When your blood sugar is low, you feel irritable and tired, and cravings seem stronger. Eating regularly keeps your blood sugar stable. Three meals and two or three small snacks a day help.
Choose whole grains, vegetables, fruit, eggs, beans, fish or meat and nuts. Drink plenty of water. Craving sweets is normal at first, especially when you stop drinking. A piece of fruit or some chocolate beats a relapse, but don't turn it into a new habit.
Did you drink a lot? Ask your doctor whether extra vitamin B1 (thiamine) is a good idea for you.
