Repairing relationships
Addiction affects the people around you too. So recovery is also about trust.
Maybe you lied, broke promises or hurt people. That can weigh heavily on you. The people around you may be angry, sad or distrustful. That's understandable.
Trust doesn't come back through promises, but through what you do. Every day you keep your word, you build something. That goes slowly, and that's normal.
Want to make something right? Wait until you're on firmer ground. Then simply say what you regret and what you're doing differently now. Don't expect the other person to forgive you right away. That's up to them.
Your loved ones sometimes need support too. There are groups for family and friends of people with an addiction, like Al-Anon. A family intake can help as well.
